The Erev Shabbos Siren

What is the purpose of the Erev Shabbos Siren?

Almost everyone knows what time Shabbos begins. If not, he can check in the many Jewish publications flooding the streets of Midwood. It doesn't help anyone.
We are in Galus. We are in America. This is not our land. This is the Goyim's land. Why should we make ourselves more hated by disturbing their Friday afternoon. There have been many reports of noise violations. Why do we need this strike against us?

What good will it do us to try to dominate land that is not ours?

I know this is short, but there is nothing more to say. This siren should be discontinued.

Sorry, Rik, can't agree with you on that one. First of all, yes, we do have calendars & we can just look up what time Shabbos starts, but some of us are last minute people who will be behind schedule & running late no matter how late Shabbos starts. Having that siren is a really big help for families like that(like mine). Second of all, I work near a church & they have bells ringing on the hour. They can have that, & we can't have 1 shnooky Shabbos siren? Come on!

I agree with Chani. The siren doesn't sound that long anyway.

Anyone complaining of a noise violation needs to get a hobby.

The siren is EXTREMELY loud. It is MUCH louder than any church bells. I think it is VERY selfish to have the siren go off. And the fact is that the siren is louder than that of an ambulance or police, so it is not safe.
